Description

This series of drop-ins expands on the skills learned in an introductory agility class. More obstacles are introduced, and a higher level of precision is required. This is a great class if you want to prepare your dog for agility trials or competitions. Emphasis will be on control, safety and fun; this course isn't a contest or a race!

Training Prerequisite: Dogs must have completed both an introductory obedience course and an introductory agility course. Dogs must be at least 1 year old and be of sound body and have good joints and muscle tone.

What to Expect

Each drop-in Agility Session will provide the opportunity for participants & their canine partner, with instructor feedback, in a variety of Agility Courses of increasing levels of difficulty (10 – 20 stations), to achieve the goals of:

Perfecting the approach and navigation through the various agility obstacles
Progressing through longer courses of ten to fifteen obstacles
Teaching the dog to associate obstacles with verbal cues, allowing the handler to direct the dog to the appropriate obstacle at the appropriate time
Teaching the handler how to most efficiently and effectively guide the dog through the course.
Fostering a sense of teamwork and cooperation between dog and handler
Having fun with your canine companion

Next Steps: Dogs who attend these drop-ins may also enjoy courses in rally obedience or scent work. In addition, these drop-ins can lead to competing in formal agility trials and competitions on a city-wide or regional level.

‍Registration Fee: $10.00/drop-in session or $100 for a12-session punch card

NOTE: In order to provide the best possible experience for dog and handler, the Gas City Dog Club reserves the right to control the number of dogs present in the training room during the drop-in session.

Important Notes Regarding All Classes

The following points apply to all classes offered at the Gas City Dog Club.

For the health and safety of all participants, Gas City Dog club will adhere to all provincial and/or municipal health regulations.
All training is based on the humane treatment of the dog and positive reinforcement methods.
Instructors do not train your dog for you, the owner/handler. Instead, they teach you how to work with your dog to get the results you want.
Classes are conducted for approximately one hour per week, for either four or seven weeks. Most classes are offered three to four times per year depending on demand.
To preserve the health and safety of all participants, your dog’s vaccinations must be up to date prior to starting any class.
Pre-registration is required for all courses. On-line registration is strongly recommended, as class numbers are limited and we operate on a first-come, first-served basis. If unable to register on-line, please call 403-528-DOGS(3647)
All registrants will be contacted by phone prior to the commencement of the class session to confirm registration and give information regarding the in-person registration event. This event allows us to finish administrative tasks, creating more time for your dog during the first session of the course. Dates and times for these registration events will be posted on the website.
Registration fees of $140.00 for each 6-week session are utilized to support a range of club activities. Be sure to ask us about our reduced registration fees for:
- Dogs adopted from a rescue organization
- Special Breeder’s Discount
- Returning participants – second and subsequent classes
- GCDC Sponsored Programs – Pet Therapy
Payment of registration fees is by cash or cheque only.
Gifts available for the dog lover in your family:
